About This Website

If you are here looking at my curriculum vitae, maybe you are wondering where my blog is? Where is the JavaScript? Why isn't this a WordPress/Laraval/Drupal site?

Because I want this site to do only one thing and to do it well.

This site is here to

If you are interested, continue on to my thought process.

Be fast.

There are no extra libraries to load. If you are looking for my information, you don't need a lot of pictures or glamour. And you are probably looking at a BUNCH of other things. Let me make sure you get my information quickly.

Be accessible.

Well marked-up, well-formed, simple HTML is still the most accessible thing on the web. I try to always start there.

Be easy to maintain.

Because I kept the technology of this site simple and fast, I don't need to complicate it with caching, CDNs or other things to speed the site up. I don't have to worry about the next version of PHP, or a framework, or a new version of typescript or React. I'm not taking time to maintain tools that don't add to the experience of you, the visitor. The exceptions are Gulp and Sass, because they make the site SO much easier to develop when styling it. And using Bootstrap, because it has good basic design.

Make my information easy to find.

That's why the first page is my CV and my contact information is directly on the first page, above the fold and always visible.

This is how I create things: Make it easy for visitors to do what they need to do, reach as many people as possible, and don't make people wait.

About Me

This is where I grit my teeth and tell you a little about myself, outside of work.

I'm a scrawy computer programmer who still likes playing with swords. To get better at that, I take classes at Spirit of the Heart

I love stories and storytelling, in lots of different forms: books, movies, video games, tv shows, LARPing. I believe a good narrative is the best way of talking through some problems, and helps connect people.

I like hearing about people's interests and obsessions. Yes, you can tell me about your obsession with hats of the 1910's. I love that you knit sweaters for lizards. I want to hear about your character.
